Nobody does shirting quite like Junya Watanabe. The arrival of every season brings renewed excitement for what the Japanese designer is doing next with his shirts, which often draw upon established fabrics and patterns but are embellished with quirky touches.

This shirt is a great example of that as from a distance it looks like a fairly conventional blue and white striped button-up but upon closer inspection there is plenty to gawk at. The white contrast stitching seems to run off the seam edges in a haphazard manner but it’s definitely intentional. On key areas like the shoulders and forearms these extra stitches act almost as reinforcement in place of where patches would go – something Junya has definitely done before.
